BINGLEY HARRIER'S
GRAND OPENING FUN DAY
The day began at 12 noon with the first Pack run from the clubs
new headquarters. This was followed by a few words and the official
cutting of the tape by Club President Graham Smith ably assisted
by the Junior Mascot Hound Dog.
The weather helped make the day with warm sunshine and people
packed around the Bingley Bistro, Tombola, Coconut Shy, a Welly
Throwing competition and other games and of course the Bouncy
Castle. The Club Championship had a different format this year
in that the endurance part of the competition was a Haystack
Steeplechase. We also included a Tossing the Caber competition,
Standing Long Jump and Turbo Javelin. At 3pm we had races for
the very young and any parents that wanted to have a go.
The big event of the afternoon was Mascot Race at 4pm when The
Bingley Harriers Hound Dog Challenged Bullman (Bradford Bulls),
Brewster the Bear (Brewsters), Sherlock (Police WatchDog) and
Blaise the Bear (The Bingley Fire Station). The competitors
voted for a sprint race over 50m and the result was a gold medal
for Hound Dog, Silver for Sherlock and in Third Place was Brewster
the Bear, with Bullman and Blaise bringing up the rear. I am
sure Bullman will want a rematch perhaps during the next Rugby
season.
Many thanks to all who helped make this a very enjoyable and
fun day followed by a junior Disco and junior presentations
by McDonald's and a number of annual awards.
Later in the evening a Disco and an appearance of Johnny and
the Poor Boys ended the long but enjoyable day.
